What I Know Now...What a Year Can Do

July 10, 2026

Hi Reader

My granddaughter turned one on July 9th, and I genuinely cannot believe it. A year ago she was brand new, and now she’s this happy, smiley little bundle of joy who has completely rearranged my heart. One year — that’s all it took.

It got me thinking about how much can change in twelve months, if you let it. That’s actually the exact idea behind this week’s post: 5 Mindset Shifts You Need to Make as You Enter Retirement. One of the shifts is simply “give it a year before you judge it” — because whether you’re one year old or newly retired, the first year is rarely the whole story. It’s just the beginning of one. And speaking of reinventing yourself — my dear friend Dr. Andrea Hayes joins us this week with a guest post I’ve been so excited to share. Andrea spent her career as a full-time Endocrinologist, and this year she became something else entirely: a published author. Her post is about that transition — walking away from a career she built for decades to start over as a writer. It’s brave, it’s honest, and it’s a real-life example of exactly what I mean by becoming the architect of your own days. I’ll keep you posted as her two new books make their way into the world. What I’m Loving Right Now

Two protein products have earned a permanent spot in my daily routine, and I’ve tried enough of them to know these are worth sharing.

Rival Whey Chocolate Protein — This is my breakfast, most days. I blend 4 oz ice, 4 oz coffee (or water), one banana, and a scoop of Rival Chocolate Whey — 25g of protein and it genuinely tastes like a milkshake but with less calories and more protein.

Stars and Honey Bars — My go-to snack, one a day. I’ve tried A LOT of protein bars over the years, and most taste like cardboard. These are the exception — 16-20g of protein and they actually taste great.
