What I Know Now...Kindness Matters More Than Ever

Friends,

Lately, I’ve been feeling uneasy at how divided and tense our world feels—especially when it comes to politics. No matter where you fall on the spectrum, it seems like conversations that used to be thoughtful and curious now too often turn into arguments, assumptions, and sometimes even calls for harm.

What I know now is this: we are still neighbors. We are still family members. We are still people who share the same grocery stores, the same parks, the same hopes for safety, stability, and a better future for the next generation.

I truly believe we don’t heal division by shouting louder or trying to be meaner. We heal by listening and being kind.

That doesn’t mean we all have to agree. It means we slow down long enough to hear why someone believes what they believe. It means remembering that behind every opinion is a life story, a set of experiences, and a person who wants to feel seen and respected—just like we do.

And I also know this: violence, or even talk that encourages harm, only deepens the wounds. It doesn’t move us forward. It pulls us further apart.

At this stage of life, I find myself caring less about “winning” an argument and more about preserving relationships, peace of mind, and a sense of shared humanity. Kindness isn’t weakness. It’s a choice—and sometimes, it’s the bravest one we can make.

This weekend, my small hope is that each of us finds one moment to listen instead of react. To ask a question instead of making a statement. To lead with curiosity instead of certainty.

Because in the end, what I know now is this: the world doesn’t need more division. It needs more compassion.

Thank you for being here and taking a few minutes to reflect with me.
