Two Years In — What I've Learned (and What's Coming for You)

October 2, 2026

Hi Reader

I can't believe it's October already! And believe it or not, this is the month I started OverSixtyInsights - Two years ago.

Two years. Some weeks it feels like I just hit "publish" on my very first post, and other weeks it feels like I've been doing this forever. Either way, I'm so glad you're here. So this week, I want to pull back the curtain a little and share what these two years have taught me.

I'm learning right alongside you

The part of this work I love most is the thinking. Every week I ask myself: What does he/she need to know right now? And almost always, the answer is something I'm in the middle of figuring out myself.

That's the secret of this newsletter and blog. I'm not writing from the finish line. I'm writing from right beside you, taking notes as I go.

And life keeps handing me new material. Lately it's been my husband. He's starting to settle into his own retirement flow, and I'll be honest it hasn't been easy for him. Letting go of the structure and identity that came with work, figuring out what a good day looks like now... it takes time. Watching him work through it has reminded me that retirement isn't a date on the calendar. It's a transition, and everyone moves through it at their own pace.

The tech is humbling (in a good way)

I really do enjoy learning all the technology behind this blog. But I won't pretend it's easy.

There's keeping the website updated. There's learning Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn, and every other platform I use to get articles in front of new readers. And then there's Google, which changes its search algorithms constantly. One month my views are up, the next they dip, and most of the time I have no idea why.

Here's the truth: growing traffic is a lot harder than I thought it would be. But I've made peace with the ebb and flow. I'd rather write something genuinely useful for you than chase whatever the algorithm wants this week.

My mission hasn't changed

Two years in, my goal is exactly what it was on day one: to give you practical tips and tools as you near and enter retirement.

Which brings me to something I'm really excited about. I'm building an interactive budget calculator, and it will be free for all subscribers in the next few weeks. There are lots of ways to budget out there, but I wanted something simple and reusable. A tool you can easily come back to month after month without needing a degree - or to pay a lot. Keep an eye on your inbox.

Your questions shape what I write

Some of my favorite content has come straight from you.

Recently, a good friend asked me how to vet a charity and make the most of her donations for tax purposes. Great question and it turned into a whole series. Tax-Smart Charitable Giving In Retirement Tips

So I'd love to hear from you: What are you struggling with right now? What would make this next season easier? Hit reply and tell me. I read every message, and your question might become the next series.

Here's to year three — and thank you for being part of it.

Warmly, Wendy

Quote of the Week
